Sponsor Licence

What is a Sponsor Licence?

The Sponsor Licence is designed for UK employers who wish to recruit skilled workers from abroad. It is a prerequisite for hiring individuals on work visas, such as the Skilled Worker Visa.

All sponsors must fully understand their immigration responsibilities and implement processes and systems to meet these requirements while maintaining records as proof of compliance.

The Home Office conducts regular audits of HR systems and other relevant processes within organisations employing migrants, and may revoke or downgrade your licence if non-compliance with sponsorship duties is identified. It is crucial to maintain compliance with these responsibilities, as neglecting them can lead to significant consequences for both your business and your migrant employees or students.

Different type of Sponsorship Licences

  • Worker Licence: For employers looking to hire skilled workers through visas like the Skilled Worker Visa.

  • Temporary Worker Licence: For organisations seeking to recruit individuals for temporary roles under visas such as the Temporary Worker Visa.

What are the requirements of a Sponsor Licence?

To qualify for a Sponsor Licence, a business must meet the following criteria:

  • The organisation must not have any unspent convictions for immigration offences or other crimes such as fraud or money laundering

  • The business must not have had a Sponsor Licence revoked by the Home Office within the last twelve months.

  • The organisation must have an active trading presence in the UK.

  • Appropriate HR systems must be in place to monitor and manage sponsored employees effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@kamalyconsultancy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The Home Office fees differ based on the type of licence on whether you apply for a ‘Worker’ or ‘Temporary Worker’ licence. Moreover, for ‘Worker’ sponsor licences, the cost may also depend on your organisation’s size and whether it is a charitable entity. Please reach out to us to discuss further.

This depends on the type of visa required for your future employees. Please reach out to us to discuss further.

Currently, the estimated processing time for Sponsor Licence applications is between 8 to 10 weeks. However, it’s important to understand that these timelines are only guidelines and do not guarantee when a decision will be made. If the Home Office opts to perform a pre-licence audit, this could further extend the processing duration.

Additionally, there is an expedited service available for a fee of £500, which places your application at the front of the queue, with a decision expected within 10 working days. Please be aware that there are a limited number of priority slots available each day.
